Saving accelerated event notification details to log files

You can choose to save details of the accelerated event notifications that you receive, to log files.

To save notification details to file:

Procedure

  1. Perform the appropriate action for your operating system:
    Operating system Action
    UNIX Right-click over the floating notifier panel and click Properties from the pop-up menu.
    Windows From the Windows system tray, right-click over the icon depicting the connection state, and click Properties from the pop-up menu.
    The Accelerated Event Notifier Properties window opens.
  2. From the Messages tab, go to the Custom Settings area, and click the System tab.
  3. Select the Log notifications check box and then click OK to save and close the Properties window.

Results

Notification details are stored in text format in the following locations:
  • UNIX: userhome/.netcool/nco_aen_settings/logs
  • Windows: userhome\.netcool\nco_aen_settings\logs

    The variable userhome represents your home directory. You cannot change the location of these log files.

A rolling log mechanism is used, with a name format of notification_x.log, where x is the log file number, which has a maximum value of 31. You can change this number by using the system.history.log.count property.

You can also change the default log file size by using the system.history.log.size property. You can change these properties in the following file:
  • UNIX: userhome/.netcool/nco_aen_settings/aen.properties
  • Windows: userhome\.netcool\nco_aen_settings\aen.properties

    The variable userhome represents your home directory.
